The first time you talk to DietPal, your coach walks you through a short, friendly setup before any food logging begins. This is how DietPal builds a plan that's actually yours.
What your coach asks
- Your goal — lose, maintain, or gain weight.
- How you want to be coached — gentle and encouraging, or firm and direct. DietPal keeps this tone in every future message.
- Your basics — sex, age, height, current weight, and how active your day is. DietPal asks one question at a time and never re-asks something you've already answered.
- Your goal weight and when you'd like to reach it — your target date drives the whole plan.
- A little about your habits — what's stopped you before, how you usually eat, your water, and whether you can fit in a daily walk. This helps DietPal build a plan you can stick to.
Before showing you any numbers, your coach reflects back what it heard — so you know you've been understood, not just processed.
Your first plan
DietPal then gives you a complete personalized plan:
- Your daily calorie target and protein / carbs / fat macros.
- A dated milestone — roughly when you'll reach your goal at a safe pace.
- A few charts: a weight-projection line, your macro split, and where you sit on the BMI scale.
If the date you picked isn't safely achievable, DietPal tells you honestly — it shows the weight you can reach by that date and the date you'd reach your full goal at a safe pace. It will never quote you an impossible target.
Committing
When you're happy with the plan, you commit (a 💪 does the trick), and your coach invites you to log your first meal and your first glass of water. From here on, DietPal remembers your plan — you won't have to set it up again.
